First Cannes, Now Melbourne Fest, Indian Silent Film on Rape is Making it Big
“White” , a silent film on rape by Aneek Chaudhari has been winning hearts worldwide. After its screening at the Marche du Films section of Cannes Film Festival 2018, it has now been officially selected for the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne. The festival will take place in August this year. The film talks about sexual assault on women.
In a statement, Chaudhari said, “Being a part of such an honorable event will fetch more credibility to the film. Since ‘White’ is an independent venture aiming at film festivals, of course we would like to earn more laurel leaves and the Melbourne inclusion in a huge booster for the team.”
Through “White”, the Kolkataa-based India filmmaker tries to tell tales of three women survivors of sexual assualts and their struggle to live a strong life. The film intertwines three stories revolving around a similar theme. Each woman shows the journey of each of the women leading their respective lives. Kaushik Roy and Arjaa Banerjee star in the film.
Chaudhari commented, “A silent film would take away any kind of language barrier from the film; this in turn, would make it approachable by a wider spectrum of audiences throughout the globe.”
