Film festivals are events that display a range of movies of different genres, countries, cultures and languages. They provide a huge platform for a movie to reach the audience and also give the makers a chance to get noticed by the bigger players of cinema. Here’s a list of some immensely popular film festivals in India that independent filmmakers should look forward to in 2017. This list includes Short Film Festivals, Feature Film Festivals and Documentary Film Festivals in India. Some of the listed film festivals allow film submission at free of cost while other festival charges a nominal fee for the film submission.

1. 6th Delhi International Film Festival, 2017, New Delhi-

What was started in 2012, to celebrate a hundred years of Delhi and Indian Cinema, has today completed 5 editions. The film festival which strived hard to bring the film industry to Delhi has been working tirelessly to involve noted personalities, filmmakers and other achievers from all fields in the film festival, to promote Indian Cinema, Art and Culture all over the world.

2. International Film Festival of India (IIFI)

 

This is the official film Festival of India, organized by the Ministry Of broadcasting, GovtOf India. Annually, the festival is held in November in Goa, India.  IFFI accepts the films in the Short, Documentary and feature film genres.

3. Gujarat International Film Festival- Info & Deadlines, 

 

The Gujarat International Film festival is sponsored by Academy of Cultural Activities & Arts Institute, a non-profit organization based in Gujarat purposed to give opportunities to suffering talents in the areas of filmmaking, art , literature and music.  The festival held on every year July at Surat, Gujarat. Submissions can only made through offline, visit their website for more details.

4. Jaipur International Film Festival-

The purpose of this film festival is to promote new movie makers, exchange of knowledge, information, ideas & culture between India & other nations in context of their social and cultural ethos. 9.Pune International Film Festival- Deadlines 2017

11. Vibgyor Film Festival- Kerala Deadlines 2017

Held in Kerala and known as an alternative film festival, Vibgyor focuses on documentaries and shorts.  12. Kolkata International Film Festival (KFF) –

 

Festival Date: 10– 17th November 2013

Held in Kolkata/ Calcutta

Already preparing for the 19th year, the Kolkata film festival is the second oldest in India.  Recognised on the international stage by the film association authority (FIAPF), the Kolkata festival showcases films from all over the world and in varying venues across the city. Although already established, this festival is continuously expanding and has already hosted numerous legendary filmmakers.

13. Bring Your Own Film Festival (BYOFF), Puri-

 

Held on the beach, BYOFF is a highly unique and artistic festival. Its set up is unlike others in that it has no formal process of qualifying or submission. Rather it is wholly independent and run by the filmmakers themselves, anyone can enter their film. Shown in tents along the beach, this really is an informal carnival style setting, yet this festival is gaining much precedence amongst the creative communities.

    why did u not include MIFF is beyond my comprehension here. ALSO why not dharamshala or kerala, you are out of your mind and completely biased.
