What does the term camera Angle is meant in filmmaking?

“Camera Angle” is a term that is used in filmmaking which defines the intensity of shots, more clearly the camera angle is used in filmmaking to attract the frames. Specifically, the type of camera angle is pre-decided from the type of shot that you want to shoot.

Types of Camera Angles

Eye Level Angle (E/A)

As the name implies, here camera focus on the eyes of targeted Object. If the targeted point is a boy, then the camera is adjusted to focus of boy’s eyes; similarly if the camera focusing a stand up person, then the height of camera be adjust to the height of the standing person.

 Applications: Used in- close up shots, capturing the face expression of the character and single person framed shots.

Eg of Eye level Shot    (Look that Eye )

Low Angle (L/A)

If the camera is place down and focusing on an object situated in the higher position, then this particular technique is called as low angle shots

Application: Low Angle technique is used to give importance of the character.  Let’s move with an instance, if it is filming scene of protagonist (Hero) and antagonist (Villain), here the camera will focus towards the hero character from low level. This means that the hero had more power than Villain.

Example Of Low Angle shoot    (Power Look)

High angle (H/A)

If camera mounts on a higher position and focusing an object in the ground level, then this technique is called as High angle camera shot. Example:A person on the terrace looking to down (From  High View To Low View)

Application: Used to establish a location, and showing point of View of the character.

Eg Of High Angle shot  (Wow, what a shot; he is looking to upper, because he knows camera is there)

Top Angle (T/A)/ Birds-Eye View/Arial View

It is the vertical View from a Top Point; Top Angle is also called as Birds Eye View and Ariel View. Top Angle is used to show the vastness of the scene, English filmmaker Hitchcock is widely used this technique in his Films.

Application: To show the vastness of the scene and also used in the beginning of the films to tell the audience where the story is happening.

Eg Of high angle shot ( top view just before the hit)

Ground Level Shot (G/L)

Ground level shots are used to focus the small objects, ultra-micro zoom lenses are needed to shoot this type of scenes

Applications: Used in Action Sequences also used where the subject demands the density of focusing object.
